Hyderabad To Srisailam Temple Trip in One Day

Srisailam is the 2nd Jyotirling among the 12 Jyotirling

Om Namah Shivay

I think you will agree with me that Planning a trip to Srisailam Temple in one day is not easy if you are planning the first time.

I visited Srisailam (By Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvathi’s Grace & Blessings) 25+ times and I wanted to help other devotees to plan a one day trip to SrisailamTemple.

What you will know in this article:
1. How to plan a trip from Hyderabad to Srisailam Temple.
2. Cover maximum locations in Srisailam within one day.

The Shrine of Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy is picturesquely situated on a flat top of Nallamala Hills. Srisailam is reputed to be one of the most ancient Shiva temples in India.

Srisailam, Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy is the 2nd Jyotirling among the 12 Jyotirlingas, and also has Goddess Bhramaramba Devi, one of the Eighteen MahaSakthi Peetams both are Self Manifested.

Only Jyothirling, which have temples of Shiva and Shakti in the same campus.

A trip from Hyderabad to Srisailam Temple in one day to cover maximum places to see in and around Srisailam requires a proper plan.

Below are the places to see in and around Srisailam:

The best-recommended mode of transport is Car/Own Vehicle so that you don’t miss the Nature’s Beauty during the journey.

The Distance from Hyderabad to Srisailam Temple is 211 KM approximately. Journey time should be around 5-6 Hours (assuming we drive with a normal speed and spend a good time in watching the nature’s beauty).

The Best time to start this journey is early morning around 3AM-3:30AM. Please do remember, the plan is to cover maximum locations in Srisailam within one day hence we must start as early as possible.

The Best days to visit is weekdays to avoid peak rush in queue lines at the main temple.

So are you ready?

Let’s Start the Journey:

The journey starts at 3AM-3:30AM towards Srisailam, after 135 KM, ghat road starts and our Ancestors welcome us and within 5-10 minutes will reach Mannanur The Forest Check Post. We have to register our vehicle ( no toll gate charges applicable) One must reach this place before 6AM so that you can start the journey once the Forest gates are opened. (Gates are closed between 9PM to 6AM, No vehicles are allowed during this time).

And yes Don’t forget to click the Nature’s Beauty.

Note: Please follow the above notice by Forest Department without fail.

During this early morning trip, we can see few animals, but we have to look around and drive slowly so that we enjoy the greenery and dense forest.

From Mannanur Forest gate, the journey is very pleasant and after 9-10 KM, you have to take left to reach Mallela Theertham Waterfalls. After driving around 8-9 KM, you will reach Mallela Theertham Waterfalls.

Check The Slideshow of Mallela Theertham Waterfalls below

A must place during this trip. One can spend around 30-45 minutes here. The beauty of this place cannot be described, one has to visit this place and feel the joy.

After 30-45mins at Mallela Theertham, you start towards Srisailam, don’t forget to watch out for animals. I always come across quite a few animals during my visits.

Next is Srisailam Dam, I cannot explain you the beauty of these scenes, you have to experience.

You should be in Srisailam around 8AM to 8:30AM depending on how you drive. But ideally one should be around this time only.

There are many accommodation facilities available but I prefer a few as they are very near to the temple. The list of accommodation centers in Srisailam is here.

Kanchi Kama Koti Peetam is the nearest place to the temple for accommodation. We can book also through phone . Both AC/ Non AC rooms are available here.

It’s time to refresh. What’s the point if you don’t take bath in Paathala Ganga (Krishna River) when you are in Srisailam, so let’s start to Paathala Ganga. It is hardly 1.5 to 2 KM from the hotels.

One can take bath at Paathala Ganga. This should take around 45minutes.

You can finish breakfast. There are a few hotels in and around but don’t expect the best quality, multi cuisine restaurants here.

Once the Breakfast is finished, the first place to visit is Goddess ISTAKAMESWARI Temple. Only M&M Commander Jeeps can go there and no other vehicle can go and please don’t try to go by your own vehicle.

There is time restriction to visit this temple ie. from 8:30AM to 2PM. Only during this time, people can visit. Hence it’s better to finish this temple first.

It’s practically impossible to reach this temple by any other vehicle except what I mentioned above. There are quite a few jeeps available to take you to Goddess ISTAKAMESWARI Temple.

The cost per head from Srisailam to ISTAKAMESWARI Temple and back to Srisailam is around Rs800 to Rs850 depending on the season. This journey gives you feel as though you are going for trekking.

Check the below video to see how the journey would be 🙂

A mind blowing and a beautiful journey to ISTAKAMESWARI Temple.

Check This Slideshow of Ishtakameshwari Temple Visit:

The entire ISTAKAMESWARI Temple visit should take around 3-4 Hours. Once you are back to Srisailam, it would be lunch time.

Very Important Note/Disclaimer: ISTAKAMESWARI Temple visit may not be a suitable (comfortable) journey for old age people and Infants. Please plan accordingly. If you are traveling with Old age people and Infants, you have sufficient time to visit other near by locations. You can visit those places.

After lunch, it’s time to visit important places near by location in and around Srisailam.

Please do remember the goal is to attend Mahamangala Harathi (Evening) at 5PM at Main Temple so you should be in main temple by 4:45PM. Hence, please be mindful of this time and plan to visit near by locations as soon as possible.

Check This Slideshow of near by locations:

You can ask anyone about the routes and try to finish maximum locations possible and come back to visit the main temple.

I strongly recommend wearing traditional dress as one has to follow Lord Shiva’s Protocol. Please do remember that we are entering into HIS premises and we must follow his PROTOCOL without any fail. NO EXCUSES. Hope you agree with me on this point.

Note: A strict dress code has to be followed inside main the temple for Mahamangala Harathi. Only traditional dress code is allowed.

For Male: Pancha with Kanduva OR Dhoti. No Shirts/T-Shirts Not even Vests are allowed for this Mahamangala Harathi.

For Female: Saree OR Salwar Kameez with Dupatta is a must. No Jeans/Shirts/T-Shirts are allowed inside the main temple.

Now it’s time to enter the Main temple for Mahamangala Harathi. No human being can explain you how this Mahamangala Harathi will be. Just feel it. I am sure you will not forget this Lifetime memorable Harathi.

All devotees who attend Mahamangala Harathi are allowed to Touch Maha Shiva Ling (Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy) in Gharbalayam.

After Maha Linga dharshan, proceed towards Goddess Bhramaramba Devi darshan. If time permits sit in the temple premises to feel the serenity of the place.

And don’t forget to take Laddu Prashad at Prashad counters.

Once you come out from the main temple, get ready for the return journey.

If one is interested and time permits, stop at Sundipenta, for a visit to Forest Department’s Museum (which is on the left side of the main road ) where you can see few animals which are protected by the Forest department.

And finally, come back to Hyderabad safely.
